Pray for Endurance

How we respond to trials in our lives reveals the true quality of our character. Our response under pressure is an opportunity to show others that our beliefs are more than just words. Who do we really put our faith in? If we put our faith in ourselves or in the people or things of this world, then our trials produce only apathy or despair. But when we place our faith in Jesus, our feet remain on solid ground which allows us to endure through any hardship. Often, we pray for God to deliver us from our circumstances, but maybe this isn’t what we should be asking. There can be meaning be found in our suffering if we patiently endure.

 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5

When we experience hardship and suffering, we are confronted with the truth. Alone, we are weak and powerless over the situation. Yet, when we rely on Jesus, he freely gives us the strength, comfort, patience, and peace to endure. As we wait upon the Lord, our prayer life and our relationship with Jesus deepens. The quality of our character transforms as we see that God is faithful to see us through even the hardest of times. As you face hard times ahead, pray for God to help you to endure without compromise.

And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. Matthew 10:22

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2

“‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary. Revelation 2:2-3

For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5
