Words of Wisdom- Day 9

One in Christ

Anxiety weighs down the heart,
    but a kind word cheers it up.

The righteous choose their friends carefully,
    but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Proverbs 12:25-26

My post today is in gratitude to my brothers and sisters in Christ. If there’s ever been a time when anxiety has been weighing down hearts it is now. When we watch the news we hear so many discouraging stories that our spirits can begin to despair. I have had cycles of slipping into anxiety or depression periodically over the past year. This is generally when I am filling myself with the wrong things, things that fuel my anxiety rather than calm it. Just as described in the verses, it is important to be choosing our friends carefully. Are we surrounding ourselves with people who are lifting us up and refreshing us or are we surrounding ourselves with people who discourage us and weigh us down? Are we walking with the wise?

Walk with the wise and become wise,
    for a companion of fools suffers harm.

Proverbs 13:20

Writing this blog more regularly has kept my eyes focused more on God. It has also opened my eyes to the world of other believers out there. As I have read more and more Christian blogs recently I am seeing thoughts that mirror my own. I am feeling encouraged, refreshed, and less alone in the world. The media of secular society can make you start feeling like the amount of fellow believers is dwindling. But I am starting to see God and fellow believers more and more as I open myself to other sources. The truth in the words of others is resonates within me. This morning I listened to the song “Start Right Here” by Casting Crowns and it filled me with conviction. God is speaking the same message to all of us who truly desire to follow Him!

A generous person will prosper;
    whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

Proverbs 11:25

This realization fills me with hope and excitement because we are on the verge of revival. There is a saying that it is always darkest before the dawn. This describes our nation today as we feel surrounded by darkness. But it is also the time when light can shine out brightest. Many in our country are stumbling in darkness. They are more receptive to words of hope and healing than ever before. It is more important than ever that we continue to share God’s light with others so we can start seeing the dawn. Thank you to the many Christians who are sharing your words, your thoughts, and your voice about Jesus’s redemptive grace. Keep speaking and keep sharing, even if it feels like it is falling on deaf ears. You never know where you might be planting a seed or helping to change a heart.
