#8 Do I Need Jesus?

Do I need Jesus?

Most people believe that we should each do what makes sense to us- “You do you.” That means some may want to follow Jesus while others want to follow a different religion. Some may want to do New Age practices using crystals or astrology. Still others may reject any form of religion or spirituality at all. I’m not here to tell you that my path is right and yours is wrong.

The road we each travel is affected by many factors. Where you begin often influences where you where you end. Despite our uniqueness, we each have a hole in our lives that desperately needs to be filled. You know what I’m talking about. It may feel like a restlessness, a dissatisfaction, or a longing for more. We experiment with different things thinking that this hole might be filled by our achievements, wealth and extravagant possessions, relationships, group affiliations, drugs and alcohol, or even religious participation. So, what are you using to fill the hole in your life? Do you feel satisfied? What happens when you get to the end of your road and it still isn’t enough?

The need for Jesus is universal, but path isn’t always a straight line. Many people have only turned to Jesus when they have reached a dead end and don’t know where else to turn. Jesus offers what nothing else can- a fresh start. We don’t have to earn his approval by being perfect. He has already done everything that needed to be done! His sacrifice has the power to wipe away our mistakes, our guilt, and our shame. As we lay all of these burdens down and allow him to make us new. Jesus is the only one who can restore our broken relationship with our heavenly Father. This restoration allows the hole in our hearts to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Faith in Jesus provides hope in despair, joy in suffering, strength in weakness, peace in the storm. If you feel something is missing in your life, you need Jesus.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30
