Kindness
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to act.
Do not say to your neighbor,
“Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”—
when you already have it with you.
Proverbs 3:27-28
It’s easy to get so wrapped up in the busyness of our own lives that we fail to act when it is needed most. There have been numerous times I think about doing something thoughtful or kind for someone else, but never actually follow through. I may get lost in the details or tell myself that the timing isn’t right. Other times I justify that others are helping so I’m not really needed. These verses serve as a wake up call to me. They serve as a reminder that goodness and kindness should be shared freely and without hesitation at the very moment they are needed. I have the power to act for good and impact the lives around me. When praise is due we should give it. When there is a need we should fill it. As I reflect on these verses I realize that good intentions are only meaningful if followed by action. It’s time to stop waiting and act.
